The Bedford County Historical Society has published the first new book detailing the history of the entire county since 1884. From the building of Fort Bedford as part of the Forbes Expedition in 1758 ~ through its creation as a county in 1771 ~ its near involvement in the Civil War in 1863 ~ and its role in the transportation industry as evidenced by the Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the county of Bedford has grown and thrived through the centuries. This new book celebrates Bedford County's proud history and heritage. The book's subtitle: Two and One-Half Centuries in the Making indicates that the county is still evolving and will continue for many years to come.
