Obituary Index Records

We have over 100,000 obituaries that are on our web site index.

In some cases, obituaries for an individual appeared in more than one newspaper and so there may be more than one obituary for that person in our files. Occasionally, two different people have the same name. Additionally, in a few instances the same obituary was collected by two different individuals and later indexed separately in two different books. If there are duplicates, you will only need to order and pay for one obituary. We will read both and send you the one with the most genealogical information. If the two have different information on the same individual, we will send both for the price of one.

If an obituary reported the maiden name of a married woman, that name is recorded in our index. Some times, a wife is listed under her husband's name. For example: Smith, John (Mrs).

These files are large and may take extra time to come up on your screen.

Also, be sure to use the “Search Our Web Site” feature in the Menu to find other records we have listed on our site.

You may use PayPal or your credit card to purchase. To purchase a record, refer to the information in the indexes and fill in the Request blanks. Then add the record to your cart. If purchasing with a credit card, look for the credit card icons on the PayPal Cart page and click on `continue`. Please request Obituary Records for only one person per transaction.

You may also purchase Obiturary Records by sending $5.00 per record with the name of the person, volume number and page number to BCHS. Please also include the email address that we are to send the record to and a phone number if we need to contact you.
